About the Basalt Police Department

According to the Basalt Police Department, they are "a community oriented policing agency with eleven people on staff. Our department is full-service agency that investigates all criminal activity in the Town of Basalt. The police department is located on the corner of Two Rivers Road and Elk Run at 100 Elk Run Dr. Suite 115.

The Town of Basalt is central to the whole Roaring Fork Valley and gets all of the valley’s morning, evening, and daytime traffic on Hwy-82. The town limits of Basalt incorporate parts of Pitkin County and parts of Eagle County. This means that our staff has the added challenge of dealing with two separate Judicial Districts (5th & 9th), District Attorney Offices (Eagle & Pitkin), and two separate Sheriff’s Department (Eagle & Pitkin).

We serve an incorporated population of 3000+ people with a weekday transient population in excess of 40,000 people during the valley high season. We work very closely with both the Eagle and Pitkin County Sheriff’s Departments and has developed with them an effective and efficient response assistance procedure with them. This has helped all three agencies to bring effective law enforcement to not only the Town of Basalt but the surrounding county population.”
