About the East Providence Police Department
According to the East Providence Police Department, it "is comprised of four
major organizational components including the Office of the Chief of Police, the
Patrol Division, the Detective Division, and the Services Division. Numerous
specialized units such as the Traffic Unit, Juvenile Unit, Prosecution Unit,
Vice Unit, Training Unit, Community Policing Unit, and the Office of
Professional Standards and School Resource Officers work within these divisions
to provide a wide array of law enforcement services. The department is currently
authorized to maintain ninety-nine sworn officers and twenty-three civilian
personnel.
The
Chief of Police is responsible for overall operation of the police department.
He works with the administrative staff to set goals and objectives and ensures
their realization by planning, organizing and directing personnel and resources
to that end. The Chief reports directly to the City Manager.
The
overall mission of the police department is to create and maintain a pro-active
partnership with our residential and business communities in an effort to
enhance public safety and reduce the fear and incidence of crime within the City
of East Providence. The police department's primary objective is to improve the
quality of life in our City by identifying and addressing public safety and
community concerns. The police department recognizes the importance of working
with the community at large to develop programs to meet this objective and is
committed to accomplishing its mission in a professional manner that promotes
respect and dignity of all people."
