"HERO TO ZERO"
I HAVE SEEN WHAT MOST FEAR
I HAVE BEEN WHERE VERY FEW WILL GO.
I SERVED IN YOUR CITY.
I PATROLLED YOUR ROAD'S.
I CAME WHEN YOU CALLED.
I SWEAR TO PROTECT AND SERVE.
I WORE THAT UNIFORM WITH PRIDE AND INTEGRITY.
THE FEAR WAS MINE.
I WAS LOOKING DOWN THE BARREL OF A GUN.
MY HEART RACED MY BLOOD POUNDED.
WOULD I MAKE IT HOME?
THEN THE MAN TOOK HIS LIFE AND NOT MINE.
WHEN I GOT HOME,
I LOOKED IN THE MIRROR, I WAS STILL ALIVE
I CRIED TO GOD FOR THIS MAN'S SOUL.
GOD PLEASE TAKE CARE OF HIM,
HE WANTED TO TAKE HIS LIFE.
FOR REASON'S UNKNOWN.
FOR TWO NIGHTS I THOUGHT ABOUT THIS MAN.
HIS FAMILY AND FRIENDS.
BUT IT IS TIME TO PUT THE UNIFORM ON AGAIN.
EVERYONE ASKS AM I OK?
YA, I SAY BUT IN MY HEART I AM STILL SCARED.
IT IS TIME FOR ANOTHER TOUR.
IT COULD NOT HAPPEN AGAIN.
 WE GET THE CALL
WE SEE THE MAN.
WE SEE THE BARREL OF THE GUN AT HIS HEAD.
WE TRY TO TALK THE GUN OUT OF HIS HAND,
HE MAKES US, HE WANTS TO TAKE US WITH HIM
TO GOD I PRAY PLEASE DON'T MAKE ME HAVE TO SHOOT HIM.
HE CALLED HIS MOTHER NAMES.
WHAT COULD BE WRONG WITH HIM
DRUNK AND DRUGS?
THEN TIME MOVES SO SLOW THERE IS NO SOUND
AS THE BARREL OF THE GUN COMES DOWN.
I DID WHAT I HAD TO DO WHAT I WAS TRAINED TO DO
SO I CAN GO HOME
TO MY HUSBAND AND DAUGHTER
ONE SHOT THEN TWO
HE IS DOWN
EVERYONE STILL YELLING FOR HIM TO STAY DOWN
HE DOES BECAUSE HE'S DEAD.
THEY TELL US THAT WE DID OUR JOB
THEY SAID WE WHERE BRAVE
THEY GAVE US A MEDAL
I KNEW IT WOULD BE HARD TO FIGHT
TO STAND TALL THREW THE NIGHT.
THE NIGHTMARES ARE HARD TO FIGHT,
THE FLASHBACKS STEAL MY SIGHT
THIS MAN ROBED ME OF MY LIFE.
I TRY SO HARD TO STAND AND FIGHT,
TO CHASE WAY THE FRIGHT
I TRY WITH ALL MY MITE.
TO SEE THE LIGHT OF MY NEW LIFE.
BUT I STILL FIGHT IT EVERY NIGHT
HAD I DIED THAT NIGHT I WOULD BE A HERO
BUT NOW ALL I AM IS A ZERO.
