Corporal John Skerchock, Pennsylvania
State Police (ret.) worked in Chester,
Sullivan and Monroe counties. He
retired in 2003 and is the author of
Conduct Unbecoming: A
pennsylvania State Police Mystery.
According to the book description, " A
traffic fatality is followed by the
brutal murder of a Pennsylvania State
Trooper who investigated it. The case
is quickly growing cold and it's up to
a malcontent borderline disciplinary
problem to solve it. "Living the
dream" is a term used by many state
troopers, but what happens when that
phrase becomes reality? A trooper must
solve the murder of another trooper
and friend before the trail goes cold.
It's Animal House meets the mob in
this crime solver. The first murder
mystery ever featuring the
Pennsylvania State Police.
The story is set in Central
Pennsylvania at the fictional – and
dysfunctional – Bedlam barracks. A
trooper has been murdered, and his
best friend is determined to solve the
case with a little help from his
friends, despite being warned off it
by the higher-ups.
Many of the anecdotes in the novel
were taken from Skerchock’s personal
experiences in and around Centre and
Clinton counties, while others are
part of Pennsylvania State Police
history."
