About the Pittsburg Police Department

The Pittsburg Police Department was established in 1903.  Today, the Pittsburg Police Department is organized into three organizational entities: Operations Bureau; Support Service Bureau; and, Code Enforcement Division.  The Operations Bureau includes the Patrol Division and the Traffic Division.  According to the Pittsburg Police Department, the Patrol Division “operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The City of Pittsburg is broken into beats for deployment purposes, and officers are assigned to a specific beat for a minimum of six months. Patrol officers are the first responders to the public for calls for service and are the key to the success of the department's Community-Oriented Policing philosophy.  The primary mission of the Patrol Division is to maintain the peace and provide a response to calls for service. Pittsburg Police Officers are committed to improving the quality of life for the citizens we serve. This is done through a city-wide partnership, and by using proactive and solution-seeking initiatives to deal with a rapidly growing and diverse community.”

The Support Services Bureau includes the Investigations Division and Records Division.  According to the Pittsburg Police Department, “The function of the Investigations Division is to perform follow-up investigations into serious and involved crimes that cannot be handled by patrol alone.  Police detectives typically receive preliminary investigations, assess leads, contact witnesses, interview suspects, prepare and serve search warrants, and prepare cases for presentation to the District Attorney.”
