THE CHRISTMAS COP

On a cold Christmas Eve
Christmas cops report for duty.
Because of a national terror alert,
a sergeant announces he must
cancel their leave.

While family members decorate their trees
with lights and ornaments and holly leaves,
Christmas cops patrol their beats.
Away from home, they wish they were near,
while happy carolers sing with cheer.

Their agency patch, proudly worn on their sleeve,
Christmas cops are decked with these;
A shiny badge, handcuffs and whistle,
They sadly stare at the Christmas tinsel.
A black baton, extra ammo and gun
in between calls, celebrating the birth of the
Father's son.

As stockings are filled for tiny tots,
Christmas cops are making their stops.
Risking their lives, while in hot pursuit,
children watch for Santa's red suit.

In full gear, they fight crime,
As Christmas bells chime.
Christmas cops make it home Christmas
morning, while others are called to share
in God's glory.
