This three day weekend will be enjoyed by so many

Beach trips, cookouts, family visits; there will be fun plenty

That’s ok and I am sure those we honor with the day would agree

But please don’t forget the price so many paid for this Land to be free

Memorial Day is a time to pay tribute to those warriors who died to keep our country free

A price paid beyond any value; a sacrifice they made for you and for me

We should never take for granted what these brave souls did and for our freedoms accrued

Take a moment; say a prayer, or perhaps a visit cemetery to show your honor and gratitude

On Monday at three o’clock in the afternoon, as is tradition, stop and take pause

Take this time to pay tribute to the fallen for the battles they fought for the cause

Please avoid wishing your friends a “happy Memorial Day”

For it is not a happy day to celebrate; but one to honor, remember and gratitude convey

This poem is in memory and honor of those men and women who gave their lives while in military service to our great country so that we can remain free.  I also recognize and honor the families of these brave warriors for their sacrifices.
