With solemn words I do now write
A small prayer for officers today
That work in Corrections—despite
The harm they face each day—
Law enforcement in their hearts
As they enforce these laws
Though not as known as their counterparts
They too— deserve applause
With sincere knowledge that I’ve known
To testify and attest
Is that they are the backbone
To law enforcements best
National Correctional Officers Week is here
To celebrate and now show
That correctional officers face more fear
That we will ever know
With solemn words I do now mean
With everything I have said
That Correctional officers are seen
To restrain the very fears we dread
On this week I wish to honor them
Spreading awareness of all they do
Though it’s not enough room in this poem—
To say a big enough— Thank You!
mn
And stand strong in times of adversity
