Roll call is done; it is time to hit the
street.
In the next several hours what will I meet?
Will it be boredom, excitement or danger?
Will this shift bring a real game changer?
Officers conduct this self-inquiry each time
a tour begins,
However they have little control on how the
tour ends.
Each event is handled as it arises,
But sometimes the most routine can hold
surprises.
We depend on our training as to how to
handle the call,
But our instincts often prevail to save us
from a fall.
Our guard we must always keep at the ready;
Our demeanor expected to be seen as calm and
steady.
Roll call is done; it is time to hit the
street.
I pray to my God for safety on my beat.
My family knows the danger that each tour
brings,
So Lord protect us from those dangerous
things.
