The Dallas Five

This poem is to honor the five officers of Dallas
Gunned down in an act so mean and callous
Five lawmen, their lives taken far too soon
By the cowardly act of a radical loon

Five people not so different from you and me
Reported for duty, another day they would never see
Targeted solely for the hate of the uniform they wore
Ambushed by a deranged coward; an act we should all abhor

The oath these heroes took was to protect and serve
And for keeping that oath; much honor and gratitude they deserve
They put it on the line in such a brave and unselfish way
And while serving others with their life they did pay
