Sheriff Ray Nash, Dorchester County Sheriff’s Department (ret.) began his law enforcement career in as a police dispatcher for the Forest Acres (S.C.) Police Department in 1978 while still in high school. He worked narcotics as a Special Deputy and went on the road as an officer, and later road supervisor, for the Irmo Police Department (South Carolina). In 1983, he was appointed Police Chief  when he was only 23.  Sheriff Nash says of that appointment, “don’t get too excited – Irmo was a teeny, tiny department – and we drove Volkswagen Rabbits for police cars!”

In the mid 1980’s, he worked on staff at the Institute of Police Technology and Management (Jacksonville, Florida)  Among other things, he was responsible for all micro-computer, tactical, training officer, and special investigations courses.  His education includes an AS in Criminal Justice and a BS in Education, Training and Development from Southern Illinois University.

In 1987, he went to work as a Police Chief, for the second time, in Summerville, South Carolina.  He served there for about 7-1/2 years.  He ran for Sheriff in Dorchester County.  And, has been elected to three terms as Sheriff.  He retired from the Sheriff’s department and is serving as a Professional Mentor to the Afghan National Police.

In 1998, he founded the Police Dynamics Institute to “provide character-based leadership training and technical services to law enforcement agencies around the world.”  To date, he has trained over 10,000 law enforcement officials and government leaders, nationally and internationally, in the character-based training program called Police Dynamics.  That program is available as an e-book.

According to the description of Police Dynamics: Power for Effective Law Enforcement, “this 248-page E-book features full color illustrations and a searchable index making it an indispensable tool for the dedicated law enforcement professional.  The book includes: Dynamic of Coactivity; Dynamic of Character; Dynamic of Authority; Dynamic of Restoration; Dynamic of Strongholds; and, Dynamic of Relationships.
