About the Nassau County Police Department

The Nassau County Police Department has over 2600 police officers and is one of the largest police departments in the United States.  The department is organized into three divisions: Patrol Division; Detective Division and Support Division.  The Patrol Division is the largest, providing basic police services to the population in eight distinct precincts.  Also under the Patrol Division are the specialized units like the Marine Unit, Aviation Unit and Mounted Unit.

Each of the eight precincts have their own detective squads, under the command of the Chief of Detectives.  Additionally, the Detective Division has such specialized functions as narcotics, vice, arson and explosives.  The Support Division contains units such as communications, the police academy and property Bureau.

Robert P. Como served as a police officer with the Nassau County Police Department (New York) for twenty-one years. He was voted "Cop Of The Month" seven times, and has received the Excellent Police Duty Award. He has done individual, group, and family-systems counseling for mental health, substance abuse, and relational issues in a children's shelter, county jails, and state prisons.

According to the description of his novel, Deadly Crossing, “Harbor Meadow, Long Island was a quiet New England style village...until the killings started. Deranged after a mishap aboard the Soundview: a monstrous 320 foot vessel which plies the waters between Long Island and Connecticut. a stalker begins an odyssey of murder. His weapon: a sharpened hook-device: a reminder of a childhood escapade gone wrong. On a foggy November night, the surgeon Regis Bentley became the first victim. And then, the murders began on the Soundview. Detectives Bill Harwell and Harry Benzer must unravel the mystery surrounding the murder of Doctor Bentley, and the passengers aboard the Soundview. Their investigation will turn up more than they expected.”

On May 9, 2007, Retired Nassau County Police Department police officer Robert P. Como published his third book, No Greater Love.  According to the book description, “This high-octane adventure story follows the life of a spiritually tormented man on the road to redemption.”
