Mark McClish is a retired Supervisory Deputy United States Marshal with 26-years of federal law enforcement experience. During his law enforcement career, he spent nine years teaching interviewing techniques at Marshals Service Training Academy. While assigned to the training academy, he developed the Statement Analysis® techniques to detect deception in a verbal and written statement.

Mark retired from the Marshals Service in 2009 and started Advanced Interviewing Concepts. His company provides interviewing skills training and assists investigators in analyzing suspect’s statements. He is the author of the books I Know You Are Lying and Don’t Be Deceived.

According to the book description of I Know You Are Lying, it "was written by Mark McClish in 2001 and explains the Statement Analysis techniques. It will show you what to look for in a verbal and written statement to determine if a person is telling the truth. You will also learn how to obtain more information from a statement by recognizing what a person is saying.

This book also examines eight high profile cases such as the JonBenet Ramsey murder, the O.J. Simpson murder trial and the Dr. Martin Luther King assassination. A close look at these eight cases will further emphasize how to analyze a statement to detect deception."

According to the book description of Don’t Be Deceived it "was published in 2012 and discusses the only three ways you can tell if someone is lying without the aid of a machine. The first method involves analyzing how a person phrases his statement using the Statement Analysis® techniques.

The second method involves observing a person’s non-verbal gestures. Telling a lie can create stress that will surface in the form of a body movement.

The third method is handwriting analysis. A person’s writing traits can give us insight as to whether he is a secretive person.

An examination of all three of these lie detecting methods makes Don’t Be Deceived the definitive book on detecting deception."
