the Washington County Sheriff’s Office
Formed in
1777, Washington County is oldest county in the state of Tennessee. Headquartered
in Johnson City, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office provides law enforcement to county residents. The Washington
County Sheriff’s Office is organized like many state and local law enforcement agencies, with the bulk of the sworn
uniformed personnel working in the Patrol Division. The Patrol Division of the
Washington County Sheriff’s Office consists of four platoons; each containing a lieutenant, sergeant and seven deputy
sheriffs.
The Criminal
Investigation Division of the Washington County Sheriff’s Office is under the command of a major. Like most agencies, the Criminal Investigation Division conducts follow-up investigations working to identify,
apprehend and prosecute law breakers. In the Washington County Sheriff’s
Office, the Drug Enforcement Task Force, Juvenile investigators and SWAT are under the direction of the commanding officer
of the Criminal Investigation Division.
The Washington
County Sheriff’s Office has a large reserve officer component (relative to is size).
The four lieutenants, four sergeants and 26 deputies are organized into four platoons.
